Scholarships, Apprenticeships and Traineeships

Scholarships, Apprenticeships and Traineeships

Employment opportunities abound

RICHMOND Valley Council is proud of its continued support of work experience programs with local schools and North Coast TAFE. Many students have passed through our doors for a week of learning about what it is like to work before they leave school and hopefully this gives them an insight to the subjects they need to choose to reach their chosen career path. There are many areas the Council can offer to students to learn, such as: customer service; civil construction; planning and development; assets; finance; information technology; communications and event planning; parks and gardens; landfill; saleyards; and water and sewer. Council is actively seeking students entering Years 10, 11 and 12 in 2015 who are interested in:

  • Professional scholarships in management, engineering, planning and development, and finance;
  • School-based traineeships in business administration, electro technology, fabrication, horticulture, mechanical, and water operations; or
  • Full traineeships and apprenticeships in civil construction, electro technology, fabrication, finance, mechanical, stores, and welding.

If you are interested in finding out more about either program please contact your school career adviser or Council’s Personnel Officer Sue Franey on 02 6660 0351.

Careers Information Evening - a resounding success

The Careers Evening was a resounding success with around 100 young people and their families turning up to explore the range of career options Council has to offer.

Richmond Valley Council is committed to supporting aspiring high school students in its local government area to have access to interesting careers within Council.  Each year Council will open up a proportion of its workforce opportunities to school leavers interested in scholarships, apprenticeships and traineeships.  We are looking for passionate, bright young people who are committed to their local area and dedicated to developing a career within Council.  In 2015 Richmond Valley Council is offering up to five apprenticeships/traineeships and two scholarships. Given the high level of interest preference will be given to young people aged 15-18 years living in the Richmond Valley local government area.

The next stage is to understand more about your specific areas of interest and for this purpose we are holding the following information sessions:
